Da Nang responses to Earth Hour 2024

The Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade held a ceremony at a public park east of the Dragon Bridge on Saturday to launch the Earth Hour 2024 with the message of calling on people to join hands in reducing carbon footprint, towards net zero emissions.

In her remarks at the event, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thi Thuy Mai, said that El Niño could break temperature records and lead to more extreme weather across the globe this year, according to the World Meteorological Organization. She, therefore, underlined a must-do for each person to continue to make changes to ensure global goals on biodiversity by 2030.

She affirmed “Only by joining hands with the community can we create lasting improvements and changes, contributing to reducing carbon footprint towards net zero emissions".

In response to the Earth Hour campaign, as well as the common efforts of the world and Viet Nam, the municipal Department of Industry and Trade and power sector units called on people to turn off their lights for Earth Hour from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on that day.

Accordingly, public areas, accommodation establishments, restaurants and households on main streets and along both sides of the Han River, supported Earth Hour by going dark and switching off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment.

Within the framework of the ceremony, delegates, invited guests and people visited an exhibition of paintings, drawn by pupils from primary and junior high schools citywide about the theme of environmental protection and energy saving.
